Haein X Koo Kyo-hwan. A bitter story with deep empathy
Netflix Korean drama D.P. D.P.
A drama depicting the story of a military deserter arrest team that catches deserters, a story that anyone who has served in the military can deeply empathize with, and the moment you watch it, memories of the past come to mind, and it is a story that you did not want to face. It is a story of all of us who were victims to some, but on the other hand, perpetrators to others, and it sometimes made you laugh, but at other times, it made you cry, and at other times, you felt unbearable anger.
The drama is set in 2014, and although the events that occurred in the barracks and other places are not without exaggeration, it shows them as they are. The harsh acts, officers, and nonsense are all raw and true. Just as the saying goes, the enemy of a soldier is the officer, but they know it, but they turn a blind eye to it under the pretext of maintaining military discipline, and when an incident occurs, they are busy shifting responsibility, and this is not an exaggeration, but reality itself.
Of course, it is true that the harsh acts and beating scenes in the movie are excessive and excessive. So, if you are about to enlist in the military, you don’t have to worry about this.
The immersion was good enough to feel PTSD, and the actors’ acting was good. The story that progresses heavily unfolds various stories that take place in the military as our reality that we cannot ignore. Since many people gather, there are many stories, and because of that, there are things that force us to make inevitable choices. It is not a story that the Ministry of National Defense would like to see because it is exaggerated but realistically depicted.
If it had been made by a Korean broadcasting station or production company instead of Netflix, it would not have been able to unfold such a sympathetic story.
A heavy story that weighs on your shoulders. The story of that place where you can’t sleep at night because of the nightmare of not being able to be discharged even after being discharged revolves around Private Ahn Jun-ho (Jung Hae-in) and Corporal Han Ho-yeol (Koo Kyo-hwan). Jung Hae-in’s acting was good, but Koo Kyo-hwan’s acting shines so much that it would have been seen as infinitely heavy if it weren’t for Corporal Han Ho-yeol, played by Koo Kyo-hwan.
Military life is really tough when there is a commander who is desperate for promotion. Because every day is a series of nonsense. This kind of appearance is well-blended, and the relationships between officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates are realistically depicted. Being part of a special organization called the military, unavoidable situations can push people to the edge of desertion. Of course, not everyone is in that situation, but everyone’s depth of pain is different and what they accept is also different. That’s why the absurdity in the military is not just the soldiers’ problem, but the officers are the bigger culprits. In the end, they are the ones who make extreme choices…
However, even if it’s not a situation like that, there are rough people, and there are many problems caused by those people.
They must still be using the water bottle they used during the Korean War. It’s bitter to see them make extreme choices, thinking that they have to do something to change something, but to some, it must have been a hellish reality that couldn’t be seen as just a drama. They had no choice but to desert because the depth of their pain was different. Sometimes it’s a heartbreaking story. It’s a relatable story. We bring you news about movies and comics.
