A social security system that supports the stability of living by paying a certain amount of money every month as a pension to severely disabled people who have difficulty making a living due to loss or significant reduction in employment due to disability.
* Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the Disabled Persons Pension Act, Article 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act, Chapter 5, Standards for Determination of Degree of Disability (Standards for Determination of Severely Disabled Persons for Receiving Pension for Persons with Disabilities)
* Income recognition amount = Monthly income assessment + Income conversion amount of property
Note that if the deduction amount for each item exceeds the relevant income property and is a negative number, the relevant item is treated as 0 won and the remaining amount is not deducted for financial property.
** Selection criteria (2024): 1.3 million won for severely disabled people without a spouse, 2.08 million won for severely disabled people with a spouse
To check whether you are eligible for the disabled pension, go to the Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr) > Welfare service information > Disabled people > Living support > Pension for the disabled > Mock calculation of welfare services.
* April 2018 – August 2018: 209,960 won (based on the highest payment amount without reduction)
* September 2018 – March 2019: KRW 250,000 (based on the highest payment amount without reduction)
* April 2019 – December 2019: Living and medical benefit recipients 300,000 won (based on the highest payment amount without reduction)
Second lowest class ~ bottom 70% income KRW 253,750 (based on highest payment amount without reduction)
* January 2020 – December 2020: Recipients of livelihood, medical, housing, and education benefits and the next lowest class: KRW 300,000 (based on the highest payment amount without reduction)
Above the next income bracket ~ Bottom 70% income 254,760 won (based on the highest payment amount without reduction)
* 2021. January ~ 2021. December: KRW 300,000 (based on highest payment amount without reduction)
* 2022. January~2022. December: 307,500 won (based on highest payment amount without reduction)
* 2023. January~2023. December: 323,180 won (based on highest payment amount without reduction)
* 2024. January ~ 2024. December: 334,810 won (based on highest payment amount without reduction)
Those eligible for special occupational pension benefits will be paid 50% of the basic salary until the month they turn 65, and no additional benefits will be paid.
* Basic benefits are paid until the month before the month you turn 65, and you become eligible for basic pension payments from the month you turn 65 (separate application required)
* Cities, counties, and districts that pay disability pensions will provide wired and wireless guidance so that you can apply for the basic pension one month before the month you turn 65.
* Example of basic benefit payment in case of couple reduction: 334,810 won
* Those subject to excess reduction: (income recognition amount + basic benefit amount) ≥ selection standard amount
* Recipient of basic livelihood: recipient of livelihood or medical benefits
** Next-lowest class: Recipients of housing or education benefits (not receiving livelihood or medical benefits), those earning less than 50% of the standard median income
*** Exceeding the next lower class: Those who are recipients of basic livelihood security, those who do not fall into the next lower class but fall below the disability pension selection standard

Disability pension benefits are not included in income when calculating the income of basic livelihood recipients.
Disability pension is paid on the 20th of each day, and if the payment date is a Saturday or public holiday, it is paid on the day before.
Apply at the town/myeon office or community center at your address or apply online (Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr))
When applying on behalf of a representative, bring the representative’s and applicant’s ID cards and power of attorney, etc.
1. Application
Those wishing to receive a disability pension must apply at the town/myeon office or community center of their address or apply online (Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr)).
2. Asset survey
The special self-governing province, city, county, or district that received the application investigates the applicant’s income and assets.
3. Screening for degree of disability
The National Pension Service reviews the status and degree of disability in accordance with the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
4. Payment decision
If the criteria for payment are met, the special self-governing province, city, county, or district decides on payment.
5. Result notification and payment
Special self-governing provinces, cities, counties, and districts deposit money into the beneficiary’s financial account on a regular monthly basis starting from the month of the application date.
