Earning airline mileage is one of the most exciting things you can’t miss when traveling abroad! As more and more people go abroad these days, the range of benefits has grown to the extent that earning mileage can be called another investment technique. It is especially important to drive to one airline and earn mileage! In addition, it should be noted that even if you do not fly, you can accumulate airline mileage in a variety of ways, such as using a credit card or affiliates 🙂
The more you know, the more miles you can enjoy by airline! Today, I will explain how to earn and use SKYPASS mileage for Korean Air, the national flag carrier of Korea, so that you can see at a glance!
SKYPASS is a mileage program for customers using Korean Air and its affiliates. Anyone can join, and children under the age of 12 become SKYPASS Junior members. You can enjoy various benefits such as award tickets and seat upgrades with mileage accumulated through affiliated hotels, car rentals, and credit cards. Premium member benefits such as Morning Calm Club, Morning Calm Premium Club, and Million Miler Club are also provided according to Korean Air flight mileage and number of flights.
(*) This is a condition for boarding a ticket that allows mileage accrual, and domestic flights are counted as 0.5 times.
SKYPASS is largely divided into ‘Morning Calm Club’, ‘Morning Calm Premium Club’, and ‘Million Miler Club’ according to points earned and qualifications, and the benefits offered by each club are also different.
Korean Air is part of SkyTeam, which includes more than 20 airlines worldwide. Therefore, you can use your Korean Air miles to board the planes of the 20 member airlines of SkyTeam and enjoy SkyTeam membership benefits.
Korean Air’s SkyPass Morning Calm Club members are SkyTeam Elite members, and Korean Air’s Morning Calm Premium Club and Million Miler Club members are SkyTeam Elite Plus members. Don’t forget to state that you are an elite member when making a reservation and present your physical SKYPASS card at the airport to receive the benefits! For detailed benefits, please refer to the [Table] below. 🙂
Next, let’s look at the mileage accrual standards for each sector when boarding a flight. Mileage accrual is automatic when you sign up for a SKYPASS membership, and if you did not accumulate mileage at the time of ticket payment, you can accumulate mileage later!

When upgrading seats with accumulated mileage, 50% of the round-trip award mileage is applied to the one-way redemption mileage. The above mileage deduction is the SKYPASS mileage deduction, and the SkyTeam partner airline mileage deduction differs depending on the departure area, so please check the Korean Air website or the SkyTeam website!
You can use the KAL Prestige Lounge operated by Korean Air by deducting your SKYPASS mileage. Tickets issued with Korean Air flight numbers can only be used on the day of boarding, and can be used by up to 4 people including the member himself when additional mileage is deducted. However, please note that mileage cannot be used during peak season (7/25-8/5)!
You can pay for excess baggage with your SKYPASS miles. The mileage deduction differs by region, so please refer to this point!
So far, we have summarized how to earn Korean Air SKYPASS mileage and how to use it. Basically, you know that you can only use mileage for award ticket purchases and seat upgrades. It would be nice to keep in mind in advance various ways to use mileage, such as additional airline services, use of affiliates, and family mileage pooling system! I hope you will use the precious mileage accumulated step by step in a satisfying and fruitful way when traveling. 🙂
